Gods
One of the most interesting properties of the Planes of Tempest is the existence of its gods. Rather than creators or forces of nature, the gods of Tempest are humans who have surpassed the limits of their humanity. The method through which they are chosen is largely unknown, and even those who have gone through the process have very little understanding of it. All that can be said for certain is that when one is ready to become a god, they are whisked away from reality by a mysterious breeze which announces their ascension.
Once a god is chosen, very little changes. Though the gods are recognized throughout Tempest as having some power in their respective Planes, this is a choice by the people and has little to do with any actual power (beyond that which they used to acquire the role). Their Plane does grant them one special ability: they can only be attacked in direct, one on one combat. It is impossible to assassinate a god. They also receive slowed aging, much like the Princes of Magic, although for the gods it operates differently. A god's bodily aging will be slowed by half until their numerical age doubles from when they became a god, at which point it will be quartered for the next numerical doubling, and this will continue until after 1/16th their aging will cease entirely. This is why gods who ascended at young ages, such as Queen and Lord, still appear very young even into their 30s and 40s.
